Baby Boy Bishop again...

A quick up-date on our baby's progress: he turns 23 weeks old tomorrow and was five months yesterday (yes, I know that doesn't add up...in medical terms 9 months is equivalent to 40 weeks...all very confusing).

We went for what's ominously known as a "fetal anomaly" scan on Wednesday, and were very pleased not to find any (anomalies, that is...we found the fetus). So all is well - he now weighs about 530 grams, and I am starting to look fat. It's great.

I'd hope to post a picture but it seems that our boy is camera shy (and yes, David is the father...it must be a recessive gene coming through). The obstetrician spent ages trying to get a good pic of his facial profile, but all we got was a photo of his right leg, which seemed to be floating behind his left ear. Very elegant.

All is set for mid-May then...I guess the next milestone is 28 weeks, from which time he will have a good chance of doing well even if delivered prematurely.

Any suggestions for names will be gladly received - I am hoping that "Elvis" is not going to stick.

The Festive Season

December was great. All the public holidays, and some annual leave, meant that we felt like we had had a bit of a holiday.

My brother, Kevin, and his girlfriend, Alison, were out from the UK for about 3 weeks -it was great to see them. A real highlight of their visit was a long weekend at our friend's (the Zammits) berg house - what an awesome spot! Long walks, trout fishing, lounging in the jacuzzi, fleeing from HUGE berg storms...fantastic.

We hosted my side of the family for Christmas lunch (which was a feast, of course!); and joined David's side for some post-lunch festivities.

I'm very pleased to say that we managed to stay awake until midnight on New Year's eve - bravely accompanied by some friends who had joined us for a braai. We all seem to be at that stage where we enjoy discussing the latest antics of our respective dogs - I'm sure it will only get worse when we all start having children...
